About MP3 - The Mic Porter Trio

MP3 - THE MIC PORTER TRIO

Mic Porter has selected the finest musicians from Cairns and created an all original show playing a variety of styles of music from feelgood funk/reggae to edgy, flat out dance grooves. You can be sure to hear some catchy melodies with addictive choruses, massive guitar solos and a lot of energy and excitement. Every show is different with intense spontenious  improvisation sections

MP3 - The Mic Porter Trio began  at a weekly original music night in Cairns called Uncovered  and since then  have been performing and recording for 12 years.

Mic Porter is a Sydney boy, born and raised in Balmain.

At the age of 20 he moved to Lismore to study music at Southern Cross University with Jim Kelly (Crossfire) as his mentor.

He spent  20 years in and around Byron Bay involved in many musical projects but predominantly 'Hudibrastic Funk' where he composed and performed his originals.

His time on the North Coast of NSW included teaching music at the Northern Rivers Conservatorium and Arts Centre and also Southern Cross University.

Mic Porter now lives in Cairns and enjoys a variety of different musical outlets including teaching music at Tafe, playing in local bands and being involved in different recording projects,

Mic Porter has an extensive career performing and recording with bands such as Nightshift, Jessy Lynch, Carl Orr, Jim Kelly, The Amy Chase Band, Funky Love Tank, The Tall Poppies, Rude Boy and Hudibrastic Funk to name a few.

I think the best way to describe Mic Porter is what a friend once said to him after a show

"You know something is always going to happen when Mic Porter is on stage" - Jozef O'Shannessy (singer/songwriter)
